nyMusikk’s Score Exhibition: Jennifer Walshe

Trondheim Art Museum, June 9-11, 2017

On June 10, Trondheim Sinfonietta will perform a concert during Ny Musikk Trondheim’s Score Exhibition. The concert will feature the music of composer Jennifer Walshe (Ireland), whose music is the subject of this year’s Score Exhibition.

Jennifer studied composition with John Maxwell Geddes at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and with Kevin Volans in Dublin, and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, with a doctorate in composition in June 2002. In 2000, Jennifer won Kranichsteiner Musikpreis at Inter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt.

Jennifer’s compositions have been recorded and broadcast worldwide by ensembles such as Alter Ego, ensemble recherche, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Orchestra Sinfonica del Teatro La Fenice, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble Resonanz, Apartment House, ensemble Integrales, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester.

In addition to her activities as a composer, Jennifer often participates as vocalist, and specializes in “extended” techniques. Many of her compositions are commissioned for her voice, either as a soloist or with other instruments.

Jennifer is also active as an improviser and plays regularly with musicians in Europe and the U.S., with the duos “Ma La Pert” with Tony Conrad and “Ghikas & Walshe” with Panos Ghikas, among others. Other collaborators include filmmaker Vivi Dick, and Drew Daniel’s “The Soft Pink Truth”.

Trondheim Sinfonietta will perform the following works by Jennifer Walshe during the Score Exhibition:
